The Darkside and the Antique and Collections Fair in Sainte-Maxime this January

January is here, and like us you’re probably wondering where the last year has gone. But do not fear if you’re not quite ready for the New Year; we’ve put together a guide for events happening this month, which will help ease you into 2017. With a cover band performing all the hits from one of the biggest rock groups to ever grace the planet… through to an interesting Antique and Collections Fair taking place in the stunning surroundings of Théâtre de la Mer, there is plenty to do this January in the Cote d’Azur resort.

English rockers, Pink Floyd, were a major influence throughout the 60s and 70s, creating thoughtful, melodic sounds with their psychedelic approach to music; and although the group has long disbanded, their legend lives on in the form of The Darkside. The French tribute band are made up of eight members and have toured across France continuously since 2009, receiving positive plaudits along the way; and for one night only they will light up the crowd at Le Carré.

The Darkside were formed on the basis of a shared passion for music and in particular, Pink Floyd; and they have always cited that their ambitions were not to imitate the legacy of the band but to get into the soul of the group and to keep the sounds of Pink Floyd alive. On the evening you can expect to hear all of the greatest hits from legendary albums, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall and of course the timeless, The Dark Side of the Moon.

A night with The Darkside promises to be a memorable one, and Le Carré provides the perfect venue for the Pink Floyd tribute act. With modern surroundings and a capacity just short of 500, the contemporary, intimate feel of Le Carré will contribute to the psychedelic ambiance, as the much revered sounds of Pink Floyd envelop Sainte-Maxime. Antiques and Collections Fair

6th January – 7th January

Théâtre de la Mer

Sainte-Maxime’s renowned Antiques and Collections Fair returns this January for its 6th edition, in the pristine surroundings of Théâtre de la Mer, which once again has been transformed into a spacious lounge, as it becomes home to a number of interesting and potentially valuable antiques.

Located just a 10 minute drive from Amarante Golf Plaza, the event is always a firm favourite amongst locals and tourists alike, as people flock to the theatre in search of a bargain. Exhibitors will vary between those with flea market offerings, specialist collectors and antique enthusiasts, so you can expect to see an array of intriguing trinkets, books, furniture, jewellery, coins and all manner of curious collectables on display; some of which are bound to take your interest!

Even for those not in search of a bargain, the Antiques and Collections Fair makes for a great day out for the whole family; and even meandering around the fair is a source of entertainment in itself, as you get to observe a plethora of weird and wonderful objects. The usual array of refreshments will also be available from various stalls, and locals will be more than happy to enlighten you as to the provenance of the antiques they are selling. Which, owing to Sainte-Maxime’s long and illustrious history, could well be intertwined with significant periods in the towns past, including piracy, Napoleon Bonaparte, German occupation and Allied liberation.

Be sure to pay a visit to the Antiques and Collections Fair if you’re in the area for what promises to be an insightful look into Sainte-Maxime’s rich and diverse history; and who knows, you might even unearth a bargain or two as you wander around the pleasant settings of the Théâtre de la Mer.
